Following extended discussion amongst the PerDis organising and steering committees, we have decided not to hold PerDis 2024 physically or virtually this year. The safety and well-being of all conference participants is our priority and based on information from the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Center for Disease Control (CDC) we have decided that a physical event in Manchester this June would be inadvisable.

04/06/2024 - Update: Papers now available

Unfortunately there will be no PerDis this year physically or virtually. However, the papers have been published and are now available in the ACM DL here. All authors will be invited to present their work at MUM 2024.

17/04/20 - Update: Poster, Demo and video tracks cancelled

The organising and steering committees have made the difficult decision and is sorry to announce that this years poster, demo and video tracks have been cancelled. As a result, we will not be accepting any poster, demo and video submissions this year.

The Ninth ACM International Symposium on Pervasive Displays (PerDis) will take place in Manchester, UK. PerDis brings together researchers from various disciplines with a common interest on the opportunities and challenges raised by the emergence of pervasive display systems as a new communication medium for public and semi-public spaces. As a targeted topic venue, Pervasive Displays offers participants a unique opportunity to network with a diverse but focused research community, resulting in an extremely lively event with all the energy and excitement that characterizes the emergence of a new research area. Previous symposia were organized by the Università degli Studi di Palermo, Italy (2024), University of Munich (LMU) Munich, Germany (2018), the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI) Lugano, Switzerland (2017), the University of Oulu, Finland (2016), the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) in Saarbrücken, Germany (2015), the University of Copenhagen in Denmark (2014), by Google in Mountain View, CA, USA (2013) and by the University of Minho in Porto, Portugal (2012).

The Symposium on Pervasive Displays welcomes work on all areas pertaining to digital displays including, but not limited to:

Digital displays have become pervasive to our everyday lives. They belong to our living and working environments and are relevant to many areas of research, including: advertising, architecture, art, computing, design, engineering, entertainment, human-computer interaction, retail, sociology, and urban life. The ACM International Symposium on Pervasive Displays is the premier venue for advances in research, technologies, and applications related to pervasive displays. We invite both academics and practitioners in this multi-disciplinary venue that allows discussion of challenges, innovations, and achievements from diverse perspectives in a single-track conference format. This year's conference aims to continue the tradition of innovation and excellence in research established by previous Pervasive Displays symposia - see here for more details on the submission process.

Building on the success of the previous PerDis events, we are pleased to announce the call for posters, demos, and video submissions. We invite material that reports on cutting-edge research in the broad spectrum of pervasive displays, from large interactive walls to wearable displays and immersive technologies, public installations to personalised signage, and theory through to deployment experiences.

The adjunct program presents an opportunity to publish late-breaking results, technical descriptions, installations, smaller research contributions, and works-in-progress in a concise format. PerDis 2024 welcomes posters, demonstrations and arts, as well as video submissions on all areas pertaining to displays including, but not limited to:

Poster submissions should consist of original work that has not been previously published or concurrently under consideration for any other conference, workshop, journal, or other publication with an ISBN, ISSN or DOI number. PerDis 2024 considers video and demo submissions of work which has been previously presented at another conference. Please see the submission page for more details.

All material will be reviewed by an international panel of experts in the field of pervasive displays.

Posters, demonstrations and videos be submitted by April 3, 2024.  See here for more details.
